Based essentially on the 1999 Urban Water Management Plan, with the current available water supply, the new LESSALT plant, the Ladd Lane Well and the proposed Fairview/Airline water treatment plants, the supply of water should be adequate, Weatherly said.
“You’ll have enough water supplies to supply a ultimate district,” he said.
The district has 6 million gallons of water storage but will eventually require 10 million, of which 2.5 million gallons are stored for fire flow emergencies.
Weatherly said 4 million gallons of water could be stored in two locations west of Fairview Road – one in the high zone and one in the low zone.
Weatherly said the per capita water consumption in the district is 180 gallons and each connection uses an average of 585 gallons per day. With the district’s current 5,800 service connections to the water system, the total average daily consumption is 3,393,000 gallons.
There was a slight difference of opinion on the number of service connections for estimation. Weatherly estimated 5,800 connections while Bryan Yamaoka thought 5,300 was a better figure.
SCWD Director Marchel Nelson said he preferred a high estimate.
“It’s better to over-anticipate than to come up short,” he said. “You have high growth peaks, peaks in moratoriums, and then you try to average it all out.”
