The three Salinas suspects who are accused of robbing two
Hollister convenience stores at gun point before taking police on a
two-county car chase that ended with a crash in downtown Salinas
and a fourth suspect dead from his injuries will return to court
for their preliminary examination at 10 a.m. Oct. 13 after the date
was set during Thursday’s short court proceedings.
The three Salinas suspects who are accused of robbing two Hollister convenience stores at gun point before taking police on a two-county car chase that ended with a crash in downtown Salinas and a fourth suspect dead from his injuries will return to court for their preliminary examination at 10 a.m. Oct. 13 after the date was set during Thursday’s short court proceedings.
The suspects Roberto Silva, 19, Omar Medrano, 18 and Angel Iniguez, 17, being tried as an adult, are facing charges of homicide while committing a felony and three charges of robbery. The District Attorney’s office is also pursuing charges that the three suspects were involved with a street gang.
A fourth suspect, Jesus Hernandez, died at the scene of the crash in downtown Salinas when he was ejected from his seat and slammed is upper body into a building as the driver lost control and slammed into the building. Afterward, the car hit a parked car and street light before coming to a rest.
The suspects are accused of taking nearly $1,000 from Mi Ranchito Market and undisclosed amount from 156 Plaza Gas Station before fleeing on Highway 156. The two businesses are down the block from one another.
The suspects, while flashing gang signs, then led police on a chase that at times exceeding 100 mph before the fatal crash, according to the police report.
