San Benito County – Two teens were taken to the hospital with minor injuries and one of them was arrested for driving under the influence after she crashed her car into the fence at the Hollister School District office on Cienega Road Tuesday.

Four female San Andreas School students between the ages of 15 and 17 were in a 2000 Chevy Cavalier that crashed into a wire fence that runs along the front of the Hollister School District office around 3:30pm, said firefighter Frank Cervantes.

The 17-year-old driver and another passenger both had scrapes and some glass in their face from the crash and were taken by ambulance to Hazel Hawkins Hospital, Cervantes said.

The other two passengers had no injuries and were picked up by their parents, he said.

There were no open containers in the car, but the driver had a heavy presence of alcohol on her breath and admitted she had been drinking, Cervantes said.

“She said she swerved to avoid hitting a squirrel because she didn’t want to kill the squirrel,” he said.

There was moderate damage to the car and major damage to the fence, he said.

“They took a good chunk of the fence out,” he said.

Cervantes didn’t know if any of the other passengers were drinking.
