“Certainly when I started this I thought we’d see the ultra-stylish,” said Paul Percival, a doctor at the Center, “but really I think we see everybody.”
They treat teenagers for acne and senior citizens for age spots, according to Percival.
“There’s only one thing we do that has significant downtime,” Percival said, referring to a micro laser peel.
A micro laser peel utilizes a laser for skin rejuvenation, according to Anita-Tolentino-Macaraeg, a doctor at the Center. The recovery time is about two to three days because the skin gets red, then flakes and peels.
“Everything else that we do people can go back to work the next day, or right away,” Percival said.
The Center treats acne, age spots, wrinkles, skin sagging, sunspots, age spots and varicose veins.
“Our biggest seller is Botox injections,” Percival said, “followed by hair removal and laser peel.”
They also sell medical-grade products that are not available online, including sunscreen, acne treatments and anti-aging creams. The products do not require a prescription, but they are only available through a doctor
“We’re very careful about what we recommend to patients,” Tolentino-Macaraeg said. “We use the products ourselves so we can try them before we recommend them.”
The Center is different from other cosmetic treatment practices because the doctors perform their own treatments. Nurses and physicians’ assistants perform the cosmetic treatments in most practices, Percival said. In California, nurses and physicians’ assistants can legally perform some cosmetic treatments.
“They might be in the office, but that’s it,” said Arminda Tolentino, another doctor at the Center.
Business seems to be going well, Percival said.
“Getting busier. That’s why we’re looking forward to the new building,” he said.
In December, the Center will be moving to a new location. The new office will be 1,100 square feet and feature three different procedure rooms.
“This is a nice place to start,” Percival said, “but we really need our own office.”
One way the company has been growing is through referrals.
“I would say half and half,” Tolentino-Macaraeg said, referring to referrals versus advertising. “I believe we’re more affordable than anyone around.”
