Two of Hollister’s cheerleading teams on the Pacific Northwest
Region
SANTA CLARA
The Hollister Vikings have established themselves as the best cheerleading organization in the Pacific Northwest.
Two of Hollister’s cheerleading teams won the Pacific Northwest Region championship outright on Friday in Santa Clara, earning the top score of all teams competing from California, Nevada, Oregon and Washington. One additional Hollister team was regional runner-up, and also qualified for nationals.
Hollister has sent two teams to nationals in each of the past four years, but never three teams. All of the Hollister teams performed challenging routines in Friday’s competition that included far more stunts and difficult moves than most of their competitors; the teams won by executing all of those moves to perfection.
Just like ice skating or gymnastics, competitive cheer teams can earn more points by including difficult stunts and gymnastics moves in their routines. But if they fail in even one of their attempts, deductions result which usually will deny a team the top spot.
But Hollister cheerleaders were nearly perfect on Friday, executing their moves flawlessly before a crowd of about 10,000 at Leavey Center in Santa Clara.
All three cheer teams are heading for Orlando, Fla., this weekend, which is the venue for the national competition being held the second week in December.
The Vikings are still trying to raise the final portion of the $75,000 that is needed to send all three cheerleading squads to Florida. Anybody wishing to contribute or sponsor the girls is encouraged to visit Hollister’s Web site – http://www.eteamz.com/HollisterPopWarner/ – to learn more.
