A 3-year-old boy, whose name was not released because of his age, was taken by ambulance to Hazel Hawkins where he is being treated for pain in his arm, the CHP said.

The 6:49 p.m. accident happened when Degara was driving southbound on Highway 25 in a Toyota 4-Runner with Pollack and the 3-year-old as passengers when she saw a metal object in front of her, the CHP said.

Degara sharply veered away from the object but struck part of it, sending the SUV skidding out of control and off the southern edge of the highway, the CHP said. The Toyota reportedly hit a dirt embankment on the side of the road and rolled over an unknown number of times until it came to rest in a ditch.
