Here are some things to do in San Benito County this weekend.

Here are five things to do in the area:

Winter Solstice

The San Juan Bautista Mission will be open to the public at sunrise, around 6 a.m., for the winter solstice on Dec. 21. During this one day a year, the sunrise light comes into the church in a line through the altar, aisle and tabernacle.

Holiday bonfire

The Holiday Bonfire and Hayden Christmas Celebration will be Dec. 21 at sunset on First Street near the Mission. Sponsored by the San Juan Service Club, the annual event will feature Santa Claus, games and songs.

Sounds of the Season

The Monterey Peninsula Voices, featuring the choir members who performed at the summer Olympics, will perform “Sounds of the Season” at St. Benedict Church Dec. 21, at 8 p.m. Some members of the choir are from Hollister and look forward to performing for local residents. Tickets are $20 a person, or $15 for students 25 or younger. Tickets are available at www.brownpapertickets.com/event284738, by email to [email protected], 831-902-7705 or at the door.

Holte Dinner

Volunteers are needed for Christmas Eve and Christmas. Those interested in making a donation or volunteering, may call Larry Brown at 637-9037.

Holiday Lights

Gilroy Gardens will be open for its Holiday Lights event Dec. 21-23 from 4 to 9 p.m. General admission at the gate is $29.99 for ages 3 and up, with the holiday feast available for separate purchase. Those with ice skates can bring them to skate for free. Rental of skates is available for $9 for adults or $6 for children ages 12 and under. Details: www.gilroygardens.org.
