Editor,
I am a resident of Tres Pinos and I signed the petition against the rate hike. I would like to explain my reasons for doing this.
It has absolutely nothing to do with Bobby Zaucha falsifying information or being dishonest about what is going on with our water district. It also has nothing to do with me being for or against the hotel. I am actually in favor of the Spur hotel.
I signed the petition for the following reasons. Frankly, I do not have faith in the current board to do what is best for our community when it comes to our current water situation. I feel that taking someone’s property by imminent domain should be the last resort, and that is what our water board is trying to do as we speak. As Bobby Zaucha has stated, I do believe there are other potions that have not been explored when it comes to improving our water system.
I think trying to take someone’s property will cost the district thousands of wasted dollars on lawyers and unnecessary costs that come with that process. Quite honestly, I do feel there are members of the Tres Pinos water board who ran for the position for the sole purpose of trying to stop the hotel. Also, there is a large amount of friction between current board members. As I stated before, I just do not feel like the community’s best interest is a No. 1 priority and I do not feel comfortable putting my money in the hands of a board that is in constant turmoil.
I think that decisions will be made just to see who can “one up” each other. Do I think we need to improve our water system? Absolutely.
It is in dire need of restoration. Unfortunately, the board needs to take a step back and really look at and listen to the community instead of being confrontational when questioned by residents. The board is supposed to represent our town and it clearly is not. What I really would like people to realize is that the rate increase issue has nothing to do with the hotel.
These are two completely separate issues that just happen to have come up as a concern of the community simultaneously.
