Dear Editor:
I haven’t had the pleasure of actually meeting John and Rosaleen Fitch, but I am looking forward to meeting them in person.
In the meantime, the exaggeration of deaths Saddam Hussein has caused and the minimization of deaths we have caused is not only gruesome statistics but also extremely tragic events. Just one death is tragic. Ask any mother.
Somewhere, I learned that when one points a finger at someone, three fingers are always pointing back in the other direction. It is pretty well agreed that Saddam is a monster, but what does that make us?
It looks like he was telling the truth. He had no weapons, no delivery systems and a decimated army. It looks like our president was not telling the truth.
Another error promoted by the White House linked Saddam with terrorists. The reality is that Saddam Hussein, the secular dictator, and Osama bin Laden, the religious fanatic, hated each other. There was no mutuality or cooperation at all between them.
The Holy Book tells us, “The truth will set us free.”
The truth, not wars, will set us free. The truth will keep us free.
