Hollister Independence rally-goers received a little good news from the National Weather Service. Temperatures for the seventh annual event should remain comfortable and sunny.

While temperatures will reach the 90s in surrounding areas like Tres Pinos, Pinnacles and Gilroy, Bob Benjamin, a forecaster with the NWS, said Hollister usually enjoys cooler weather, with the mercury in the 80s during the day and in the 50s during the night.

However, he called Hollister “a tricky place” to forecast.

“It will be a fairly nice weekend,” Benjamin said. “It will be warm, but it won’t exceed hot. You’re not going to see the heat wave from last week.”

Low clouds and fog will appear during the night and linger, but will burn off by late morning. While nighttime temperatures will be in the 50s, Benjamin said people camping won’t be uncomfortably cool.

“It will be chilly – cool, but not cold,” he said.

Even with “comfortably warm” forecast, people should be careful to apply sunscreen and drink plenty of water, he said.

“Sunscreen is appropriate, especially for people who will be in the sun a lot,” he said. “People should also drink lots of liquids, especially if they’re going to be exposed to long periods in the sun. Preferably non-alcoholic liquids.”
