Two unrelated fires burned near Park Hill on Tuesday afternoon.

Neither fire caused any damage and both were put out in less than half an hour, said San Benito Fire Captain Dave Lantis. About half an acre of grass burned during each blaze.

About 2:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, the California Department of Forestry responded to a fire on the north side of the hill and was assisted by the San Benito Fire Department. Both departments sent an engine to help battle the wildfire.

The fire was near an area that burned in another fire the previous day, but there was no connection between the two, Lantis said. Because of the frequency of the fires, the CDF and fire department did a nuisance abatement and burned the rest of the north side to prevent future fires.

Then about 5:30 p.m., another fire broke out on the south side of Park Hill near Locus Street. There were 12 firefighters and two engines responding to the second fire. The San Benito Fire Department had the fire out before the CDF arrived, Lantis said.
