Hollister Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9242 will award a $200 check to the winner of this year’s Patriot Pen Essay Contest and $25 checks to runners up.
According to the VFW post, the contest is open to students in grades six through eight in public or private schools as well as home-school students.
Rules and entry forms may be obtained at the office of the county superintendent on Fifth Street or online at VFW.org.
The deadline for submission of contest entries is Nov. 1 while this year’s theme is “What Freedom Means to Me.” Any school that would like a VFW representative to come out and speak to students can call contest Chairman Bob Burnham at (831) 638-1703. His address is 860 Marne Drive, Hollister, 95023.
