Panelists answered the following: Do you consider the World Cup the most exciting sports event in the world?
Richard Place: “Not yet but it probably will be after they get through wimping down football.”
Marty Richman: “Not for me, but it is for many others. The World Cup is excellent and exciting, but overall I prefer the breadth of choices offered by the Summer Olympics.”
Jim West: “Clearly you haven’t seen NASCAR.”
Nants Foley: “I know this is a HUGE event, but since I am not into it at all, I don’t get too excited about it. Now the Prix de Lausanne ballet competition is a different story…”
Bill Mifsud: “YES, hand down. There are around 250 countries in the world and soccer otherwise known as futbol is the national sport in 90% of all the countries in the world. Their futbol Super Bowl is played every four years. The pageantry, country pride and the great game, it is by far the most exciting sporting event in the world.”
Mary Zanger: “Yes. Soccer is played in every village, town, city and country of the world. It is played by young and old. All that is needed is a ball and a space. The skill and passion of the participants make the game exciting!”
Richard Herrera: “I think it is the most popular sport in the world because it unites us nations together but I think football is more exciting.”
Ruth Erickson: “I don’t, but many people do. I prefer the Winter and Summer Olympics with many different sports. The World Cup is like the Olympic Games of football/soccer because it is played in most countries on every continent with hundreds of thousands of international fans.”
