Around the Water Cooler

Question of the week: Considering the safety issues facing the cruise ship industry, would you feel comfortable going on one?

Marty Richman: “Yes, but I would select carefully. A cruise ship is a combination hotel, resort, and amusement park; like those they range from sedate to crazy wild. Caveat emptor – let the buyer beware.”

Bill Mifsud: “It is not a question of safety for me. It is a matter of am I getting my money’s worth. Yes, I would feel comfortable going on a cruise ship but with all the problems, going on a cruise it is not on my things to do list.”

Ruth Erickson: “Cruise ships are registered in other countries so how much control do the companies have over the maintenance? Carnival seems to have more problems than other cruise lines, so I would cruise with another company to feel safer!”

Mary Zanger: “Yes this incident hurt the cruise business. I noticed how people helped one another. This could be a metaphor for all of us. We together travel the cruise ship, earth, in the ocean of space. We are doomed to catastrophe if we stay on course of consuming fossil fuel. The pollution will destroy our ship. If we change course to use the energy of the sun, wind, geoghermal, and ocean, we save ourselves and our ship in this vast ocean of space.”

Nants Foley: “I have been on several cruises and enjoyed them. I would not hesitate to go again. Maybe not on Carnival!”
