Editor,

He’s at it again. It’s no wonder that 7,066 San Benito residents signed a petition to recall John Sarsfield. It is clear that Mr. Sarsfield is once again acting more like a schoolyard bully than a mature adult as he levels an attack against Supervisor Reb Monaco (Fight erupts between supervisor and DA in last weekend’s Free Lance).

In yet another example of the vindictive behavior usually reserved for young children, Mr. Sarsfield makes a feeble attempt to justify his anger toward citizen Monaco by connecting Reb’s statements of dissatisfaction with whim to evil trial lawyers bent on nothing more than lining their pockets at county expense.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Mr. Monaco voted, along with every other member of the Board last week, to approve a public defender contract that saves the county over $175,000 a year. Mr. Sarsfield has the audacity to infer that by some method yet unknown to the rest of us, Mr. Monaco is attempting to cut law enforcement jobs and funds, an obvious attempt to discredit Reb in the eyes of the community, with absolutely no basis in fact.

The truth is that Mr. Sarsfield is a bully. Bullies pick on others in order to bolster their own feelings of inadequacy. Every time Mr. Sarsfield attempts to defend the miserable job he is doing, he does it by attacking someone else. In his paranoia he sees everyone who disagrees with him as being backed by shadow organizations run by evildoers bent on dragging him down.

We are not evildoers John. We are citizens. Many of us voted for you. We thought you would do the job we gave you and that our county would be better off for it.

We were wrong.

My father told me when I was young that the only way to deal with a bully is to stand up to him – 7,066 of us are standing up to you Mr. Sarsfield; 7,066 and countless others disagree with Supervisor Loe and think you need to leave office before 2006. Our county deserves better. You know it, and now we know it.
