An unknown suspect attempted to kidnap a Hollister woman at gunpoint while she was taking her usual morning walk near her home Thursday morning, according to police.
Renee Scribner, 35, was walking near 2100 Valley View Rd. around 4:45 a.m. when a man pulled up in a light or possibly gray vehicle and pointed a black handgun at her, said Hollister Police Sgt. Ray Wood.
“He pointed the gun at her and said, ‘Come with me now,'” Wood said.
Scribner ran to the first available house and when no one answered she ran to the next house where she was able to contact the police, he said.
The man was alone in a box-like four-door sedan, was of dark complexion and had thick, dark hair that fell right below his ears, Wood said.
The police department occasionally receives reports of people attempting to harass residents on the street, but there is no pattern of an individual attempting to kidnap people at gun point, Wood said.
While there is no need to become paranoid, community members should be extra aware of people in cars and their immediate surroundings, Wood said.
“Especially women and children,” he said. “The active criminal is always looking for a woman walking alone or a child by themselves.”
