Dear Editor:

I read an article, “Mother leaves child in hot car at outlets”, dated Thursday, July 17, 2003. It was reported in South Valley Newspapers by Zeb Carabello.

I am outraged at the negligence of Gayatri Gharia, a mother who left her crying baby in a car with a temperature of 99 degrees.

Is this woman from another planet?

According to the article, her reasoning was the 20-month-old baby was not feeling well. If that baby was not feeling well initially, he surely was not feeling well when the paramedics arrived.

As far as I’m concerned, this woman should have been arrested on the spot and made to pay a healthy fine!

It is a sad commentary that our society requires people to get a driver’s license and there are no license requirements for having children.

This should not have happened especially in light of the constant news coverage of the potential danger to children.

Gayatri Gharia, you and your child ended up very lucky, this time.
