Flooding occurred along San Benito Street near the high school area during the December storm.

San Benito County Emergency Services is hosting three upcoming workshops to help prepare local residents, businesses and organizations for the upcoming El Niño winter storms.
Those workshops are set for 6:30 p.m. Nov. 16 at San Juan Bautista City Hall, 6:30 p.m. Nov. 17 at the San Benito County Administration Building, and 6:30 p.m. Nov. 18 at the Southside School gym.
Homeowners can learn about such precautions as cleaning gutters, 72-hour emergency kits, needed supplies and accessibility to resources, O’Neill said.
Locals can find out answers on what to do if they’re living in low-lying areas or how to make sure their pets stay safe, said O’Neill and Emergency Services Specialist Kris Mangano. It’s particularly important to be prepared for a major emergency because of the county’s geographic position. “We’ll pretty much become an island for a little while,” he said.
There will be staff present from public works, the fire department, law enforcement, the National Weather Service and the office of emergency services.
