The Hollister Police Department arrested three teenagers for allegedly stabbing a local youth several times near San Juan Road Saturday.
The names of the three suspects were not released by police because of their age, but they were taken to San Benito County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of attempted murder, police said.
The attack happened shortly before 9 p.m. when the victim was reportedly walking across a field next to the Quik Stop convenience store at 1300 San Juan Road.
The suspects reportedly confronted the victim in the field, an argument ensued and then the suspects reportedly attacked the victim.
As the fight took place along the sidewalk in front of the convenience store, the suspects allegedly stabbed the victim three to five times in the abdomen and upper torso, police said.
As the victim fell bleeding to the pavement, a San Benito County Sheriff’s Deputy drove up on the scene, which sent the suspects fleeing through the field, police said.
“At first I thought there had been a fight because when I saw him, he was laying in the driveway trying to push himself up and then he just laid there,” said a motorist at the crime scene who asked not to be named.
As the deputy began first aid, he radioed a description of the suspects to the police and the direction in which they fled, police said.
Two police patrol units raced ahead of the fleeing suspects and arrested them as they came out of the field.
While the suspects were being arrested, firefighters and paramedics arrived at the scene of the stabbing and began emergency medical care.
Police and firefighters closed off a section of San Juan Road to allow a Calstar helicopter to land close to the crime scene. The victim was placed in the air ambulance and flown to a Bay Area hospital were he is listed in serious condition, police said.
Investigators said they are still trying to piece together a motive for the stabbing.
