An unidentified man was injured today when the tractor he was driving crashed and overturned into a utility pole, pinning the driver inside.
About 3 p.m. Friday, the tractor was traveling south on the shoulder of Monterey Road near California Avenue in San Martin, when it was struck from behind by a GMC truck.
The tractor overturned onto its side and lodged against the utility pole on the west side of Monterey Road. The truck continued south for a couple hundred yards before it ran off the road into a ditch.
Both drivers were transported to San Jose Regional Medical Center with “minor to moderate injuries,” according to a Sheriff’s officer at the scene.
The driver of the tractor, whose name was not available at press time, was trapped between the tractor and the utility pole until emergency crews arrived. Bystanders at the scene said the tractor driver was an employee of nearby LJB Farms.
Officers from the California Highway Patrol, Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office, and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, plus a tow truck responded to the accident.
