In the Hawks first league game of the season, Anzar finally found its offensive spark.
With a season-high 40 points, Anzar girls basketball team started the league season with a 40-33 victory over Marina on Wednesday. The victory is Anzar’s third win of the season, and moves the school’s overall record to 3-10.
Freshmen starters Leslie Martinez (14 points) and Lynette Weckerle (15 points) each scored in double digits to lead the Hawks to victory.
Anzar took control of the game in the final quarter, rallying for 15 points. In the quarter, Marina started to get into foul trouble when Anzar started to press defensively.
Anzar hosts league-opponent Georgiana Bruce Kirby Preparatory at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
