San Benito County’s foreclosure rate dropped between December and January and also declined by 44 percent from the same time a year ago, according to figures provided by RealtyTrac.
The most recent numbers now also place San Benito County in the middle of the pack for counties in California, which is a long way from single-digit rankings from just a couple of years ago. In January, with one in every 238 properties entering foreclosure, it ranked San Benito at 25th among 58 counties statewide.
As far as details go, there were 25 notices of default and a total of 75 homes in foreclosure, according to RealtyTrac’s data.
The figures are not just encouraging for January – with a 27 percent drop from the prior month – but they also amount to a significant drop, 44 percent, from January 2011.
As for other area counties, Monterey ranked 31st, Santa Cruz ranked 46th, Santa Clara ranked 51st and Merced ranked 17th. The worst foreclosure rate in the state was Yuba County, with one home in every 126 going through foreclosure.
