If you hadn’t noticed, the pedestrian streetlights downtown might look just a bit different these days. The City of Hollister, funded through a federal stimulus grant, is retrofitting more than 300 city-owned lights.
Workers this week were installing “a lot more energy-efficient induction lighting heads” on 92 pedestrian lights downtown, and will then move on to do the same for around 240 of them elsewhere in the city, said city engineering official David Rubcic.
Rubcic said there is a total of around 2,000 street lights in Hollister, but most are owned by Pacific Gas & Electric. When funding is available, the city plans to retrofit those with LED bulbs as well, he said.
Crews should be done with the retrofitting by the end of the week or by the start of next week, he said.
