Kristina Wyatt

The San Benito County Business Council recently elected Kristina Chavez Wyatt as its new executive director, according to an announcement from the organization.

The business advocacy group has appointed Wyatt, of Meridian Pacific Inc., to the leadership post.

In a statement announcing the move, Business Council President Larry Barr, of Pacific Scientific, noted that the organization has taken several steps on “key community wellness issues” such as working with the city on a new wastewater plant, getting the Measure T sales tax approved and supporting the at-large mayoral initiative for the June ballot; while it has worked with the county to keep the courthouse downtown, rescind the growth management ordinance, help with the Williamson Act and lower traffic impact fees by 50 percent.

Barr in the announcement said the group is “now entering a new and more strategic phase of Business Council collaboration with” the public sector, and that the new “hands-on” approach with Meridian Pacific will “enable us to expand on our results oriented approach to private-public problem solving.”

Wyatt has more than a decade of business advocacy, public relations and government affairs experience, according to the organization.

She also serves as vice chairman of public affairs for the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce and vice chairman of government affairs and community relations for the Salinas Valley Chamber of Commerce.

She is a fifth-generation Californian, and a graduate of Gavilan College and the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo College of Agriculture. She lives in Hollister with her husband and twin infant daughters.
