Voters will have one more tax to consider on the already packed November 2012 ballot.
The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors discussed and voted 4-1 to adopt its own resolution to place a countywide one-eighth cent sales tax before voters in the fall.
District 1 Supervisor Mike Wasserman cast the lone opposing vote. The measure required four out of five votes to pass.
The decision to pursue a proposed county sales and use tax measure was cemented during a meeting Tuesday morning on the 10th floor of the County Government Center, located at 70 W. Hedding St. in San Jose.
Officially coined as the “County of Santa Clara Retail Transactions and Use Tax Ordinance,” the county’s hoped-for sales tax could join several other proposed tax measures on the November ballot.
This includes a sales tax being explored by Saint Louise Regional Hospital to help fund a multi-million dollar emergency room; a potential parcel tax to help fund the Gilroy Unified School District; and a sales tax measure currently being considered by the City of San Jose.
