according to the San Benito County Jail.

Rigoberto Bonilla, 43, was arrested Wednesday and quickly posted bail, after a three-month investigation by the Hollister Police Department and the district attorney’s office.
Bonilla’s arrest stems from a Dec. 5 incident when a Hollister man was struck and killed by a vehicle on the 700 block of Fourth Street around 7:45 p.m., according to a police statement. About 35 minutes afterward, police received a call from Bonilla who wanted to leave a statement. Bonilla met with police but was released pending the investigation.
Police originally reported that the phone call took place an hour after the accident, but amended the detail in releasing the most recent update.
Alberto Preciado was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering head trauma.
The San Benito County District Attorney’s Office filed charges Wednesday, shortly before Bonilla’s arrest, District Attorney Candice Hooper said. The charges were delayed because the office was waiting on lab reports.
“The facts of the case, after review the report and being on scene, make it apparent that it was a hit-and-run,” Hooper said. “He knew he was involved with an accident that injured someone else and he left.”
Bonilla is scheduled to appear in court March 29, according to a statement from police.
