The Northern California Law Enforcement Special Olympics Torch Run will make its way Wednesday morning through Hollister and Gilroy as part of a regional effort to promote the Special Olympics Northern California Summer games, scheduled for June 24-26 at the University of California, Davis.
The Hollister leg of the run will begin at 7 a.m. in the Target store parking lot at 1790 Airline Highway and end at the Quik Stop convenience store on Fourth Street, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Jaime Rios, who will be the lead runner.
From the Quik Stop, the torch will be driven to the Gilroy Police Department at 7301 Hanna Street. Rios said the torch should arrive at the GPD by approximately 9 a.m.
More than 500 law enforcement officers from federal, military, state, county and city agencies are participating in the run, which began June 10 in Tulare County, to promote the Special Olympics Summer Games, according to a Special Olympics Northern California press release.
The flame is expected to travel hundreds of miles through 21 counties on its way to the summer games opening ceremonies.
