Last year’s tough 2010 season ended in heartbreak for the Balers
at home in Andy Hardin Field.
The first round upset loss to Independence, a game which the
Balers led, was a fitting end to an up-and-down 6-5 season that saw
the Balers hang with undefeated Palo Alto and lose to upstart
Salinas 20-7 at home.

The new Baler season shows promise with a new starting quarterback and tailback, but first the team will have to get through a tough early schedule.
For the second year in a row, San Benito will play powerhouse Palo Alto – the winners of last year’s CIF Central Coast Section Open Division championships.
Palo Alto dominated on its way to a 14-0 record last year including a 23-6 victory over the Balers at Andy Hardin Field. Despite the lopsided final score, San Benito trailed by only one at halftime.
This year, San Benito will open its season in Palo Alto on Sept. 2 to play the Vikings.
The tough early season continues for the Balers the following week against Oak Grove, who defeated San Benito 34-13 last year. Oak Grove, who finished last year with an 8-3 record, will travel to San Benito for the Balers first home game.
San Benito will finish the non-conference schedule against Saratoga and Division II CCS champion Willow Glen.
The Balers will defend their Prune Bowl championship over Gilroy High on Nov. 4 in front of their home crowd. The Balers’ off-week will come in mid-October, halfway though its conference schedule.
The Balers final game will be at the Salinas Sports Complex against Palma.
San Benito High head coach Chris Cameron and Athletic Director Tod Thatcher did not immediately return phone calls.
