A Los Banos man was arrested Thursday evening after he crashed into a parked car along U.S. Highway 101 near San Martin, sending a 27-year-old Santa Clara woman to the hospital with a broken leg and possible head trauma, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Jose Padilla-Vega, 36, was driving south near San Martin Avenue around 5:23 p.m. in a 1996 Honda Civic when he veered off the highway and collided with a 2011 Nissan Altima that had stopped on the right shoulder, the CHP said.

As he collided with the vehicle, Padilla-Vega also struck the woman, who was standing outside the vehicle, the CHP said.

Padilla-Vega was arrested on suspicion of DUI and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail, according to a CHP report.

The CHP said the woman was airlifted to Regional Medical Center of San Jose. Three other occupants were in the Nissan vehicle, but no additional injuries were reported.

The incident is still under investigation.
