San Benito High School students put on their annual winter dance concert Dec. 7-9. As it does every year, the concert featured a variety of upbeat and exciting music. Some songs included: “If You’re Out There” by John Legend, “Dream World” by Robin Thicke and “Pumped Up Kicks” by Foster the People. More than 100 students performed during the concerts.
Dancer Melyssa Martinez, a junior at SBHS, said the concert was a “great success.”
All those involved danced their parts perfectly and everyone was on cue, she said. Being a part of a dance group looks like easy fun, Martinez said, but “there is so much more to it. It takes hard work and strong dedication.”
Like many of the other dancers, Martinez started dancing when she was little.
This year the theme for the winter dance concert was “Dance for Change.” All the songs featured in the performance related to a different kind of change. The lead choreographer, Heather Nichols, came up with the theme because she wanted to bring world problems to light and to make students aware of them in a fun and positive way.
The winter dance concert had a great turnout and the dancers are now beginning preparation for the spring dance concert in May.
