The official field of candidates is set in San Benito County for
the June primary, while just three local races will be contested.
Residents had until 5 p.m. today to declare candidacy for open
seats that include two supervisorial positions, the sheriff’s role
and many others.

Residents had until 5 p.m. today to declare candidacy for open seats that include two supervisorial positions, the sheriff’s role and many others.
For sheriff, candidates include Undersheriff Patrick Turturici, Hollister police Sgt. Ray Wood, county Marshal Robert Scattini and Watsonville police Lt. Darren Thompson.
The two open county board seats also are contested. In District 3, incumbent Supervisor Pat Loe is facing Robert Rivas, senior board of supervisors clerk in Monterey County. That district includes southwest Hollister, south of South Street and east to Memorial Drive.
In District 4, incumbent Supervisor Reb Monaco will take on two challengers, local businessmen Phil Fortino and Jerry Muenzer. That district covers South County, southeast Hollister, Tres Pinos, Ridgemark, Paicines, Bitterwater and New Idria.
In other uncontested raced locally, incumbents running again include District Attorney Candice Hooper, Clerk/Recorder/Auditor Joe Paul Gonzalez, Assessor Tom Slavich, schools Superintendent Mike Sanchez and Treasurer/Tax Collector Mary Lou Andrade.
Two San Benito County Board of Education seats also are open and uncontested. In District 3, Joan Campbell-Garcia is running, and in District 4, Michell Dabo is running.
Two county residents have declared candidacy for the 28th Assembly District seat currently held by Assemblywoman Anna Caballero – Robert Bernosky and Allen Barker.
