The family of John Patrick Bedell plans to hold a private service locally “once he arrives here in San Benito County,” said Tom Ament with Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home & Crematory in Hollister.

“Ultimately, the plan will be once he arrives here in San Benito County, there will be a private affair,” Ament said today, noting a specific day has not been scheduled. “All I know is that their plans are to have something here privately for their brother. Basically, we’ve been asked to represent them locally here with (others on) the East Coast.”

Ament, who has communicated largely with one of Bedell’s two younger brothers, Jeffrey, declined to confirm whether the family planned to cremate him or bury his body.

“Let’s say, they will have a family closure for John Patrick, they called him ‘Patrick,’ at some time,” Ament said.

Bedell, 36, opened fire outside the Pentagon on Thursday and injured two officers before being killed by return gunfire.
