Gavilan College officials are addressing the public at two upcoming gatherings, a forum Monday at the Veterans Memorial Building and a Lunch with Leaders event Wednesday at San Juan Oaks Golf Club.
College leaders, including an ad-hoc committee of trustees comprised of Elvira Robinson, Kent Child and Laura Perry, will host the gathering at the Veterans Memorial Building in Room 218. It is scheduled for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday. It is intended to gain community feedback about interim expansion of classroom space before Gavilan builds and opens a permanent campus, planned for Fairview Road at Airline Highway.
Before building that campus, though, Hollister must gain “educational center” status by having at least 500 full-time equivalent students taking classes here, right now at the Briggs Building where capacity is running out.
After Monday’s forum, Gavilan College President Steve Kinsella will be the guest speaker at the monthly Lunch with Leaders event put on by the San Benito County Chamber of Commerce. It is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at San Juan Oaks Golf Club. The host is the Community Foundation for San Benito County. The cost is $15 in advance or $18 at the door. People can RSVP by calling the chamber office at (831) 637-5315.
