Day 1 of the Tri-County Athletic League Tournament is done, and the last remaining members of the San Benito girls tennis team are Erin Glasspool and Alex Triolo.
The doubles pairing, which were seeded No. 1 entering the tournament after going undefeated in the regular season, earned a first-round bye during Monday’s action.
The two then defeated Kayla Hoyt and Denise Santos of North Salinas 6-2, 7-5 in the quarterfinal round.
The win advances Glasspool and Triolo to Tuesday’s semifinals, where they will square off against Notre Dame’s Carmela Flores and Brenda Ponce.
Matches begin at 2 p.m. at Salinas High.
Flores and Ponce eliminated San Benito’s other doubles team from contention on Monday — sisters Kristina and Kelsey Slavich. The singles players during the regular season teamed up as a doubles pairing on Monday, but lost to the Notre Dame duo 6-0, 6-2.
In singles, both of San Benito’s two selections were eliminated on Monday as well.
Audrey Marshall managed to win her first match of the day when she defeated Gilroy’s Jennifer Kwong 6-7, 6-3 and 10-7 in the third-set tiebreaker.
However, Marshall was unable to continue the trend later in the day, falling to Notre Dame’s Auburn Carpenter, the No. 2 seed, 7-5, 6-3.
Meanwhile, Alex Garcia was eliminated from the TCAL Tournament in her first match, when she lost to Nia Casad of Everett Alvarez 6-0, 6-1.
