Luis Alejo

Assemblymember Luis Alejo, who represents District 30 including San Benito County, might be headed for even higher levels of state representation.
Alejo terms out of his current position in 2016 and is thinking of running for state Senate, though he hasn’t made a final decision yet.
“There’s always options,” he told the Free Lance. “That’s an option that’s a long way down the road because that seat doesn’t open up until 2018.”
Until then, Alejo is looking at running for supervisor of Monterey County’s District 1, which includes most of urban Salinas.
His wife, Karina Cervantez Alejo, announced this week that she is running for his seat. Cervantez Alejo was elected to the Watsonville City Council in 2012 and currently serves as a council member. She is the second Latina in the city’s history to serve on the council, according to a press release. In 2014, she served as mayor.
This is a developing story. Check back at SanBenitoCountyToday.com for more about more about Cervantez Alejo and her husband.
