San Benito High School A.D. declines to comment
San Benito High School is investigating a verbal altercation between its varsity wrestling coach and a fan after a meet against Gilroy High School on Wednesday.

While a Free Lance reporter had been interviewing head coach Matt Olejnik about 20 minutes after the meet finished, a fan in attendance approached him, and the coach and spectator became involved in a verbal altercation.

They hurled obscenities at each other for about 30 to 45 seconds and they had to be separated. Most of the fans had left the Gilroy gymnasium when the argument arose, and there were some players still remaining on the floor when it happened.

It’s unclear what started the argument or specifically what they were upset about.

San Benito Athletic Director Tod Thatcher declined to comment because it’s a personnel issue.
