The California Department of Transportation will host a meeting Thursday to discuss a plan to widen a 10-1/2-mile stretch of Highway 25 from Hollister to Gilroy.

The meeting is set for 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at R.O. Elementary School, according to a press release from Caltrans.

It is open to the public and will offer a chance for suggestions before the mandatory Environmental Impact Statement is completed.

The widening project is the major piece of safety improvements to relieve congestion on the stretch of highway that has, at times, been deadly.
