Sunnyslope, Airline to close
The Council of Governments (COG) recently announced that beginning in mid-April the intersection of Sunnyslope Road and Airline Highway will be closed for construction of the Hwy. 25 Bypass Project. All traffic will be detoured around the intersection. The closure will last 30 days and will be in effect 24 hours a day.
The intersection closure is necessary to allow construction crews to complete work at the new Hwy. 25 Bypass/Sunnyslope Road intersection. The contractor will be doing earthwork and elevating the roadway in the area as well as installing electrical systems for the new traffic signals.
To help detour traffic, a portion of the new road will be open to the public. Drivers will use the new Bypass from Sunnyslope Road to the new East Park Street extension that connects the Bypass to McCray Street.
Vehicle and pedestrian traffic will be prohibited from traveling through the intersection. The public is encouraged to consider using other routes and avoiding the area during peak traffic times, such as before and after school and in the evenings.
All entrances to shopping areas will remain open and will be accessible.
For more information, call Mary Dinkuhn at 637-7665 or visit the project Web site at www.Highway25Bypass.com. On the Web site, readers will find maps of the detour routes and will soon be able to watch a video produced by CMAP depicting the drive during the detour.
