graduations are just around the corner. Baseball season is coming
to an end and summer is just about to begin.

It sure is a busy – once fair time rolls around, the days just seem to fly by. Many end of the year school activities are taking place and graduations are just around the corner. Baseball season is coming to an end and summer is just about to begin.
Tracie Eggleston hosted hot lunch at Bitterwater-Tully School last Thursday. With the help of her cousin, Matt Palmer, they served a delicious lunch of barbecued chicken and sausage. Some of those from the community stopping by to enjoy lunch with the kids included: Johnny Joe Maggini, Vern Scattini, George and Donna Palmer (it was so nice to see their faces again!), Lynette Hurley, Alberta Rist and Janel and April Flook.
Bitterwater-Tully School is sadly facing the fact that we are losing our long-time fourth through eighth grade teacher, Tim Williams, at the end of this school year. Tim has been a great teacher for the past 11 years and everyone hates to see him go. His wife Erika recently accepted a position at Sequoia National Park near Three Rivers. He and his family will be greatly missed at our school and in our community. Now, Bitterwater has to go through the tough task of trying to replace him. He will be a hard act to follow.
Birthday wishes go out to Steve Rianda, who celebrated his 70th birthday last weekend. His kids hosted a surprise birthday party/surprise retirement party (for June Rianda) at their home Saturday. Some of those on hand to wish both of them well included: Roy and Ginger Gianolini, Billy and Karen Whitney, John Romans, Corky and Theresa Richardson, Harlan Butler, Nessen Schmidt and Val Bassetti, Les and Betty Sans, Vern and Jo Ann Scattini, Stan and Jamie Pura and Todd and I. Not to mention all the family members who were in attendance as well. It was a great party and a great time was had by all. Happy birthday and happy retirement Steve and June!
Nessen Schmidt and Val Bassetti spent last Sunday in Parkfield at the Parkfield Ranch Rodeo. Seems someone has their names mixed up as they heard there was a “cat fight” at the bar the night before and I of all people was in it! Contrary to what the mix-up implies, it certainly wasn’t me! We haven’t been to the Parkfield Ranch Rodeo in over 10 years! I guess it wouldn’t have been so bad if I had come out on the winning end of the rumor, but apparently I didn’t! I can’t wait to talk to the Varians or Masseys and find out who it really was!
Here’s a new addition I will try to incorporate in my column as much as possible – Flashback. This week’s Flashback is: what happened in King City 40 years ago this week. The Rustler Newspaper was sold for a mere 10 cents per copy, cross rib roasts at Safeway were only 98 cents per pound and bacon was only 59 cents per pound. Grain hay was selling for $5 per ton and alfalfa hay was selling for $4 per ton by Roy Brossard of Greenfield. In election news, Gov. Ronald Reagan ran unopposed and was the favorite candidate for the GOP presidential delegation, receiving 73.7 percent of King City’s Republican votes. Wes Bengard was elected as the new Rotary president and Fire Chief Bob McCay was re-elected.
Speaking of elections, I hope you all took the time to exercise your right to vote on Tuesday. If you don’t take the time to vote, you have no right to complain about politics, politicians or the government.
