A judge Thursday sentenced the former treasurer of the Baler Band Booster Club after she had pleaded no contest in an embezzlement case, according to court records.
Debra Curtis was sentenced to five years of probation, 120 days in the county jail and restitution of $74,401.02 for embezzling from a San Benito High School fundraising group, according to court documents. She was credited with 61 days time served, according to the records. Judge Steven Sanders presided over the sentence hearing.
Curtis was allegedly an agent, servant and employee of the Baler Band Booster and unlawfully took money from the group, according to court records.
As part of the terms of the probation spelled out in the sentencing hearing Tuesday, Curtis will no have contact with the Hollister Balers Band Booster Club members or students. The embezzlement occurred between June of 2013 and February of 2014, according to court documents.
Other components of the probation sentence include orders to abstain from the use or possession of alcohol and controlled substances without a valid prescription. Curtis will also pay court approved fines and fees in addition to the restitution money.
