The local highway patrol office is set to conduct a checkpoint in the southern Santa Clara County area on Saturday.
The California Highway Patrol, conducting the sobriety/driver license checkpoint through a national grant campaign, did not announce the precise time or location for the checkpoint.
Below is the full CHP announcement:
The California Highway Patrol’s Hollister-Gilroy Area Office will conduct a sobriety/driver license checkpoint on Saturday, August 29, 2015, within the south Santa Clara County area.
CHP officers who are trained in the detection of alcohol and drug impaired drivers will staff the sobriety checkpoint. A CHP Drug Recognition Expert, certified by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), will be available to provide assessments of any drivers suspected of drug use. Officers will have at their disposal preliminary alcohol screening devices to accurately analyze breath samples.
Drivers passing through the checkpoint will be checked for impairment and arrested if determined to be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. The checkpoint will send a clear message to the community that the CHP will not tolerate impaired driving and will promote awareness of the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
This sobriety checkpoint is made possible through a grant known as Reducing Impaired Driving (RID) and is part of the Departments, “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign which runs August 21, 2015 through September 7, 2015.  Funding for this grant is made possible through the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Safety Administration.
