Is the 1 percent county growth cap too low? Supervisors are starting to examine just that.

According to RealtyTrac, which monitors the housing market, 151
new San Benito County properties were in the foreclosure process in
November, compared with 105 the previous month. On a more positive
note, November’s figures are still a big improvement over the 256
properties in August and 249 in September that were in some stage
of foreclosure.

After relatively hopeful figures in October, the foreclosure picture for the county spiraled downward again in November, according to a monthly report from Irvine-based RealtyTrac, which tracks the figures.

The number of homes that received either a notice of default, a notice that their home will be sold by their lender or a notice that the bank now owned their home outright rose by 44 percent over the previous month and 72 percent over November of last year. In addition, San Benito County went from the 10th worst county in California affected by foreclosures in October to the seventh worst. The county has been, however, as low as second worst.

On a more positive note, November’s figures are still a big improvement over the 256 properties in August and 249 in September that were in some stage of foreclosure in the county.

According to RealtyTrac, 151 new San Benito County properties were in the foreclosure process in November, compared with 105 the previous month.

California continues to be among the hardest hit states, with one out of every 218 homeowners in the foreclosure process, compared with one out of every 488 nationwide. A total of 259,085 homes in the U.S. were in some stage of foreclosure in the month of November. Nearly a quarter – 60,491 – of the national figure comes from California alone.
