Hollister – A judge set a date Thursday to determine if there is enough evidence to try a Hollister woman accused of embezzling $9,600.

Diana Maria Lozano, 35, is scheduled to appear at a preliminary hearing in San Benito County Superior Court on Mar. 28. At that hearing, the District Attorney’s Office will present evidence against Lozano.

Lozano pleaded not guilty to felony counts of grand theft by embezzlement and obtaining money by false pretenses, and two felony counts of forgery on Feb. 2. She was released on a $60,000 property bond Feb. 3, according to jail personnel.

District Attorney Candice Hooper previously told the Free Lance that Lozano approached a local family in August and offered to refinance their home. The family began making cash payments, which Lozano pocketed, Hooper said.

If convicted of grand theft, Lozano could face up to one year in state prison.
