Driver’s dread and great places to eat

Q: I am 16, but I am really nervous about taking driver’s training and the driver’s test. Should I wait to get my license?

– From Scared to drive

A: Dear Scared – I know exactly what that’s like. I remember how scared I was to start driving. My question is if you have your permit. If you have your permit, it means you have the knowledge of the basics of driving, so you are well on your way. If you’re just taking the classes right now, don’t sweat it. That’s easy.

For the behind the wheel training, the most important thing is to not be nervous. When I took behind the wheel, I was so scared, so I gripped the wheel too hard. That makes your hands hurt really bad. Try to loosen up, but know that it is natural. Usually the trainer will try to talk to you, to calm you down. It gets easier as time goes on. It just takes a little practice

At this age, having a license is the greatest thing because we do not have lockers. Remember that driving is a privilege, not a right, so try not to abuse it. Your parents do have the authority to revoke your license.

Q: I am new to Hollister. What is the best way to find out which restaurants have the best food?

– From Lost in Hollister

A: Dear Lost – It all depends on what type of food you like. We have a variety of fast food joints, as well as other restaurants. It all depends on whether you are on a budget.

In Hollister, we have very few nice restaurants where you can sit down and eat. There is Paine’s, which is the traditional menu, where the food is good and prices are somewhat moderate. We have a lot of Mexican restaurants as well, like Las Palmas, Progresso’s, and Taqueria El Grullense. All of which have very good, authentic food, and prices are considerably well.

Chinese wise, we have Cheung Sheng on Sixth Street. I think that it is one of the best Chinese restaurants, but there is also China Garden and the Wok.

But you don’t need to dine in Hollister. San Juan has some great places including JJ Burgers, Orient Express, and Jardines de San Juan. In Gilroy, there is also a big variety, including Applebee’s, Famous Dave’s BBQ, Chevy’s, Chilies, and other things. You can always look online for anything else as well as the phone book, and word of mouth

Q: I am 14 and I really like a boy in one of my classes but haven’t told anyone. The problem is my best friend just told me she likes him. I really like him, too, but I don’t want to lose my friend. Should I tell her I like him?

– Confused in Love

A: Dear Confused – I, myself, have been in this situation. Boys are an interesting topic to explain. It all depends on the relationship you and your friend have, as well as the relationships you both have with this boy. Talk to her about it. She may get mad, and say you are trying to steal him away but believe me, you are young and there are plenty of boys. Don’t make it a competition between you two either. Just make sure you both know how you stand on this boy. I’m sure she’ll understand. True friendship always does.
