Wildlife Services Program Vital To San Benito County

Editor,

As chairman of the Fish and Game Advisory Commission for San Benito County, I attended the Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday with an interest in the reinstatement of a Wildlife Services Program. Your coverage was interesting in that Tracie Cone was quoted at length in your article; however Cone was not in attendance at that meeting. Cone and Kate Woods were partially responsible for having this program cut and canceled.

The photos run in Cone’s former newspaper, the Pinnacle, showing the supposed slaughter of coyotes in the county were not even photos from San Benito County and were published with the sole intent of gaining the sympathy of those residents uneducated in the matter, It worked.

Now the Board has the opportunity to reinstate this vital program necessary to the county from a health, economic and safety standpoint by funding the hiring of a wildlife specialist to trap and remove any wildlife nuisance.

This is not a vendetta against coyotes, but a sensible solution for many different problems and issues facing all of us. Whether landowner or rancher in the county or homeowner or renter in the city, everyone is affected.

I hope the Board and the public well realize the benefits of this program and follow through to see it implemented.

Jim Hawkins, Chairman

Nyland Property In San Juan Bautista Not For Sale

Editor,

In the March 2007 meeting of the San Juan Bautista City Council, I brought up the issue of the San Juan Bautista attempt to condemn property on 500 Lasuen Drive. The city manager said she would set up a meeting as soon as possible in the afternoon and report back to the Council. As of today, no meeting has been planned.

I would like to go on record that the Nyland Family does not want to sell any property in or out of San Juan Bautista. We will fight any attempt to condemn the Nyland Property.
