BLM officials hope that by burning land in two consecutive years to rid the Clear Creek Management Area of yellow star thistle.
The burn will be focused along Clear Creek Canyon Road, where the thistle infestation is heaviest.
Yellow star thistle is a Eurasian native that made its way to California in the 19th century. The BLM discovered its presence in southern San Benito County about 16 years ago.
The thistle is poisonous to horses, and can cause nerve damage and death.
