Get a Grip
There are three basic golf grips to choose from and numerous
variations of each one of those. So how, once you have decided
which of the three works best for you do you decide what is the
best way to adjust your hands on the club? Take a look at Fred
Couples’s grip. Does it look like Tiger Woods? Not even close. If
you gave Tiger Fred’s grip and Fred, Tiger’s, do you think they
would be the same golfers? I doubt it.

Your golf grip should make you feel as though both hands are in the best place that allows you to control the club without one hand overpowering the other. If your left hand is in a position that is weak your right hand has no choice but to work a little harder to try and stay in control.
We have all heard Sam Snead’s “Hold the club like a live bird,” but if your hands are improperly placed on the club we create tension. Tension means squeezing and squeezing means the death of a live bird. So what we need to do is find the best place in each hand to place the club so we have control.
Bear in mind that whenever you make a grip change the first thing is, it will feel terrible but with time that goes away. Here is what you can do to find the best way to personalize the way you hold a golf club. Take a seven iron and swing it with just your right hand. Make quite a few swings, all the way back and all the way through, to a finish position.
After seven to ten swings look at your grip. Then repeat. Your right hand should naturally find its own best position to control the club. Look at the position and remember it. Now repeat the same drill with your left hand. And look at that position.
Having done this you now have each hand in its best possible position to control the club. Play well.
