Hollister – Five shots were fired Tuesday night at a home and vehicles in the 1000 block of Sally Street, leaving authorities looking for suspects in a small black car, police reported.

It was the city’s 14th drive-by in 2007 and third shooting in August, according to police.

Three individuals – including a woman and two teenagers – were home during the shooting. But they were not injured, said officer Rosie Betanio, a spokeswoman for the Hollister Police Department.

Betanio said evidence was collected at the scene, but she would not elaborate on details of those items.

Hollister has been plagued with shootings in 2007, with 16 so far, including two attempted murders and one homicide, according to police records. In 2006, there were six shootings in Hollister.

“The majority of them are gang-related,” Betanio said, “if not all of them.”

She added that the public can help the department’s investigations into the shootings.

“If they have information or are witnesses to something, it is in everyone’s best interest to come forward,” Betanio said.

March was a particularly active month in the city, with five shootings reported.
