San Juan Bautista – The Anzar Hawks improved their record in the Mission Trail Athletic League on Tuesday night, defeating the visiting Gonzales Spartans in three games.

The Hawks won 25-16, 25-20, 25-16 to move up to 2-1 on the year in the MTAL.

“We’re a stronger team than Gonzales,” coach Chris Wardlaw said. “We were kind of up and down and didn’t cruise too much instead of just putting them away, but it went well.”

Christina Flores contributed a team-high 12 kills in the game, and added five blocks and an ace. Jaclyn Wiley supplied a balanced performance as she had seven kills, seven digs and three aces against Gonzales. Teammate Erin Deleissegues added seven kills, 14 digs and an ace, while Allison Lopez had 15 service points, a pair of aces and four digs.

Anzar will be on the road Thursday night when they visit Soledad at 6pm.
