Authorities confirmed more details, including a cause, in the fatal accident Monday morning on Pacheco Pass.
The California Highway Patrol confirmed the suspected cause of the accident, noting in a report released Tuesday how the 2000 BMW started to hydroplane in the rainy conditions and lost control into a hillside before rolling over.
The solo car accident on Highway 152 west of Dinosaur Point on Monday morning resulted in the death of a male passenger, an 86-year-old man from Gilroy who hadn’t been wearing a seat belt in the backseat.
The accident was reported shortly before 10 a.m. in rainy conditions on the highway just west of the summit.Â
The driver of a 2000 BMW 5 Series lost control in the rain, went up an embankment and back down before rolling over several times, according to CHP Office Chris Miceli in an interview Monday.
There were two others in the vehicle, the CHP reported. An 18-year-old female from Gilroy sustained major injuries, and a 49-year-old female from Los Banos sustained minor injuries, according to the CHP.
